This whole class has been such an interesting experience to say the least. I enjoyed my time so much I wish I could retake the class over again. Any kidding aside but I did learn a lot from the class and I want to talk about that. More specifically I want to talk about how I would mentor someone else with the knowledge that I gained from this class. I will talk about the things that had the most impact on myself personally and as an entrepreneur.

The first thing that impacted me greatly was just the heart and drive the entrepreneur that we studied in this class hard. That put their hard and soul into those things and it shows. I would always tell others that if they want their dreams to come true they have to put the work. That they can’t just skate by with a great idea. A great idea or product is not a company. They need infrastructure, they need inventories, and they need profits. I will tell a person that I would mentor to remember these things because if you don’t have them then you won’t be as successful as you could.

Another thing that I felt was really important to learn through the process of taking this class is to remember to be honest and have integrity. These two things are of utmost importance. If you want people to take you seriously and to be known as a person you can do business with then you need to be trusted. The people who can be trusted the most are those people with integrity. There might be times where you might think being dishonest will get you ahead in life but that is not true. You might get ahead of the curve for a limited time but it will always come back and get you. That is just how life works. I can attest to that as face because that has happened to me and I know from experience.

These were the two mains things that I took from this class and what I would tell someone that I would mentor in the future. You need to have a good work ethic and use it to work hard. You will also need to be honest and to have integrity. These two things will get you far in life and it would serve you well to learn it.

There quite a few things that I really enjoyed this week for class especially the talk by President Thomas S. Monson. I liked one of the poems that he used and it says,

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings; name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. …

So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged; God is over all.

Count your many blessings; angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

I absolutely love this poem that he uses. We need not be discouraged by the things that happen to us by be proud of the things that go well for us. There is another popular refrain that he uses in his talk and it says,

Accentuate the pos

itive;

Eliminate the negative.

Latch on to the affirmative;

Don’t mess with Mr. In-between.

I really liked this because it shows that we need to be positive and forget the negatives in our lives and look for the good things and make sure we know what is right.

There were a lot of things that I really enjoyed in the reading. The things that I liked were the following, “The old saying that “money will not buy you happiness” turns out to be supported by all of our latest scientific research. You likely are as happy today as you ever will be. More money, power or sex will have little, if any, effect on your long-term happiness, satisfaction or fulfillment. Despite all of your daily worries, you likely will end your life quite satisfied, though not necessarily fulfilled. The greatest threat to you leading a fulfilling life is a misguided pursuit of happiness that blinds you to the possibility of a more meaningful Hero’s Journey.” The thing I also liked was when it said, Live in a free country that minimizes life-threatening poverty. You will not be happy if someone in the government controls your life. There is a marked difference between people who live in countries controlled by authoritarian regimes and those who live in freedom. While the effects of material wealth are limited, extreme poverty does breed unhappiness. 6 More money does not result in more happiness once you are barely comfortable, but poverty that threatens life itself leads to long-lasting unhappiness. I really liked these. 

This week's class assignments were really exciting and enjoyed them thoroughly. some of the things I enjoyed were Heart of an Entrepreneur reading and I learned some cool things. I also enjoyed the talk A Challenge to Become by Dallin H Oaks. I really liked when Dallin H Oaks said, "Now is the time for each of us to work toward our personal conversion, toward becoming what our Heavenly Father desires us to become. As we do so, we should remember that our family relationships—even more than our Church callings—are the setting in which the most important part of that development can occur. The conversion we must achieve requires us to be a good husband and father or a good wife and mother. Being a successful Church leader is not enough. Exaltation is an eternal family experience, and it is our mortal family experiences that are best suited to prepare us for it." I think this was really cool and I know these are just as important as the things we learn about business.  We need to know what things we have as an priority and know that we just are not entrepreneurs to make money but are entrepreneurs to support our families. It's all very important. 

There are several things that I really liked in the reading and assignments we had to do this week for this class. The first thing I enjoyed was in A Message to Garcia and it said, frequently report your progress with objective measures. Whenever possible, provide samples of your work. Instead of asking how to accomplish a task, show what you have done so far. If you are off course, you’ll get immediate feedback to put you back on the right path. I really liked that a lot because it shows us that we can get help when we need it and the employer will show us when we got off on the wrong path. The second thing I liked was from the same reading and it said, “Everyone has special God-given gifts. Discover yours and accept challenges that allow you to practice and perfect these skills. Develop a reputation for mastering a discipline and extraordinary opportunities will seek you out. I really enjoyed that because it shows us that we need to discover how we can take our god given abilities and how we can take those and grow them and make them strengths. I think that is highly valuable in today’s business world. 

I this week in my introduction to entrepreneurship class was really interesting to say the least. Their were a lot of things that I enjoyed. The thing I enjoyed most was when I read the What's a Business for was really powerful. There were several things from that. The first was when it talked about the economy. I think virtue and integrity is vital to the economy because we need honesty people to but rejuvenate the economy by buying things and that money goes back into the economy. If they are dishonesty and steal instead of buying then money does not go back into the economy. That was the main thing that I got out of that. Other things that I got out of it was that those who contribute their skills to the economy are just as important as those that put their money into the economy. I think that is so important to realize that influences the economy so much.  I think these are all so important for entrepreneurs to know why it is important to value the customers of your business and that they are just important towards being an entrepreneur. If there are no customer than you can’t be an entrepreneur. 

This week was really interesting to say the least. There were quite a bit of moving parts and lots of things to learn and read. I actually enjoyed a lot of it. One of the things I enjoyed the most from this week was real N.Eldon Tanner’s talk about gauging self-mastery. He included a poem and it said:

The heights by great men reached and keptWere not attained by sudden flight,But they, while their companions slept,Were toiling upward in the night. There are a few things that I really liked about this poem that was included. First was about how great things were reached and accomplished by working hard. Greatness is not achieved without putting in the time. You cannot attained things by quickly putting them together and hopefully to accomplish great things. The second is the way to do that is to work at greatness while others do not. You will always have a leg up on the competition when you are putting in the work when others don’t. I think these are all things that we need to learn as entrepreneurs and to apply them in our lives.  If we don’t then we will be behind the curve. 

This week for class I have actually learned a whole lot from it. I actually really enjoyed class this week it was really cool. Here are some of the Highlights and quotes that came from reading and watching video’s this week:

·         So many people miss an opportunity of a lifetime because they are worried about the wrong things.

·         The hardest choices we have to make in this life are choosing between many “right” answers.

·         The things that we need to do to find our God given calling is to, Think of what you love to do, ask five people you know the question, “What do I do better than anyone you know, and Think about the last thing you did where you lost track of time.

I think those were are very important things to learn from and to put into our lives. I think if I asked those questions of myself I would not have had to take so long to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. If I knew these things before then finding what I had a passion to do would have been a lot whole easier. I think everyone should know these things. 

I think this week was really interesting to say the least for my introduction to entrepreneurship class this week. The highlight for me was being able to read the start-up of being you and how that really helped me to see what be an entrepreneur is all about. I loved the story about Reed Hastings the founder of Netflix and how had to face insurmountable odds in starting a business.  People laughed at him and saying his dream was impossible but he did l he could to be able to accomplish his dreams. I think about has been a trend in this class about having dreams and aspirations and trying to 0vercome them and I think that is very important to learn in anything we do and not just in starting a business.  I just love that part about this class and how I can learn how to grow and know that no matter what my dream is and no matter what others think that I can be successful in anything I do and I think that is amazing. That I something we all can learn from and that is something that all of us should know. I will be trying to spread that message to as many people that I can. 

I really enjoyed this week of class with all the videos and the article that we had to read. It really was an eye opening experience to say the least. One of the videos I really liked was Frank Levinson’s video about why ethics are important. I found a lot of truth to his statement. It is vitally important that we have ethic people around and people will notice whether you have a company with ethical standards or not. One of the parts I did not agree with was where he mentioned about not have a website for a business. Then I remembered that he gave his talk back in 2001 back then you didn’t need a website but now 13 years later I believe it is a must to have a website to succeed in business. I also liked reading the talk by Sheri Dew titled, True Blue Through and Through. I enjoyed the story told about Joseph F. Smith about when he had a gun pointed to his face and asked if he was Mormon. He said that he was and the person with the gun told him he was the most pleasant person that he has ever met and didn’t kill him. That kinds of goes along with Frank Levinson’s about ethics and being true to yourself. Those are things I need to take in account for myself and to always be honest in all my dealing. Those are the important things that I have learned from the class this week.

This week was really interesting. The articles that we had to read in class really taught me a few different things about entrepreneurship. It taught me that we have to continuing to be learning new things. Once we stop learning that is when we stop being successful. There are always others out there that are trying to be better and they are learning. If you are an entrepreneur then there may be someone out there that is trying to do the same thing you are and they might be doing it better. In that way you always have to be on the top of your game when it comes entrepreneurship. You don't want to lose what you have gained by being lazy and that is why you have to continue learning. Another thing I learned was from the talk, “what is your calling in life”. In the talk it started talking about gift and this is what it had to say, For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby. I learned from this was that we all have different gifts and we need to use them so we can all benefit from them. That is why we have multiple people would within a company to achieve the vision that is set out. We can accomplish things by ourselves but we can achieve more by working together. Those are a few of the things that I have learned from this week in class.

  

I am taking a business class called Introduction to Entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I am suppose to start a blog that talks about my experiences and what I have learned from this class week to week. This is my first post within this blog. The first week has been pretty. I have discovered what is expected of me and what I have to do within the course. I actually am looking forward to what I have to so within this class. I am excited to learn what it takes to become an entrepreneur and what type of spirit it takes to become one. I have always been interested in how people start of up a business and this class will give me the additional insight in how they do that.There are already a few things that I have learned in this course so far. The main thing that I have learned is that it takes a person with great spirit and a drive to succeed to start up a successful business. You can not just go half way in and expect to be successful. You have to go all in and strongly believe in what you are doing to be successful. That is something that I am going to do within this course. I will do all the assignment to the fullest of my ability so I can get the most from the assignments. You can be successful by going to route in your everyday life and it just does not apply to starting a business. I look forward to this class and to what I will be learning.
